Moose Lake: Home and Refuge by Ryan Abel

Badge finalist Finalist for Green Shorts Film Festival in Environmental

This short film highlights the challenges that the Fort McKay First Nation and Métis community members face living in the middle of the Alberta Oil Sands region, located just North of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada. This film illustrates the environmental, wildlife, human health, and traditional land use challenges that face the community members of Fort McKay. The expansion of the Oil Sands is ever-increasing and is putting greater and greater pressures on the environment, wildlife, and biodiversity in this Northern region of the Boreal forest in Northeastern Alberta. A traditional area of refuge, collectively called Moose Lake, is highlighted in the film, as the community of Fort McKay fights to preserve its traditional way of life and aboriginal rights.
